Contents

History

The highway was upgraded in 1985 by Kamunting Corporation Berhad. Dato' Lim Thian Kiat, Dato' Lim Ah Tam and Tuan Haji Anuar Hamdan are directors of Kamunting Corporation Berhad. The Jalan Kuching toll plaza was in operation from March 1987 to January 2003. Today the highway is maintained by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL)).

Current developments

The Segambut roundabout has been upgraded into four-level interchange. Construction began in 2004 and was completed by the end of 2006. The project was led by Malaysian Public Works Department (JKR), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the main contractor was Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad (AZRB). This four-level interchange was opened to traffic on 26 February 2007.

Meanwhile, the 2-lane single-carriageway section between Bandar Baru Selayang and Templer's Park is being upgraded to 4-lane dual-carriageway with emergency lanes and several U-turns. Construction started in 2006 and expected to be completed in 2009.

Notable events

Kuala Lumpur-Rawang Highway landslides

On 4 November 2009, the Kuala Lumpur-Rawang Highway was closed after an early morning landslide, affecting more than 80,000 motorists on their way to work in the federal capital. The landslide occurred at Km 12 of the highway near Selayang, Selangor after a heavy downpour at a forested hill which saw tonnes of earth sliding down the slope covering the two lanes leading towards Rawang.
